  • Evaluations are driven by referral concerns, and the specific domains assessed can vary from one individual to the next. In general, areas that may be assessed as part of a neuropsychological evaluation with Dr. Hoffman include:

    • Cognitive Abilities (Intelligence/IQ)

    • Attention

    • Executive Functions

    • Learning/Memory

    • Visual/Motor Abilities

    • Language

    • Academic Achievement

    • Emotional and Behavioral Functioning

    • Adaptive Skills

  • On the day of the evaluation, Dr. Hoffman will initially meet with you and your child to discuss areas of concern along with developmental, educational, and behavioral health history. After this intake interview, Dr. Hoffman will work 1:1 with your child to complete a variety of assessments. During this time, you will be asked to complete brief rating scales to provide information about your child’s typical day-to-day functioning. Input from teachers and other community providers may also be requested when appropriate. The evaluation will be followed by a written report and, if desired, a feedback session to discuss the results.   • Prior to the evaluation, it is helpful to have a conversation about what your child can expect. Here are some suggestions for child-friendly language you can use to discuss the evaluation process.   • On the day of the appointment, you can expect the intake and testing process to take a total of 4-5 hours. Evaluations with older adolescents tend to be longer, while evaluations for younger children tend to be shorter. After the evaluation appointment, you will receive a written report within 3 weeks detailing the findings along with recommendations tailored to your child’s unique pattern of strengths and weaknesses.
